Special Care Dentistry: Into the future

We are excited to welcome the ISDH community, new and old, to our annual conference. All dental professionals and allied professions are welcome to join us for two days of fun and learning.

This year’s annual conference will be held in the beautiful location of Killashee House Hotel. This is just 35 minutes drive from Dublin, just outside Naas, set in the rolling hills of Kildare, meaning it can be easily accessed from all over the country. Pre-Conference Workshop: Minimally Invasive Dentistry

Thursday 6th June

This year’s pre-conference course will be an interactive workshop discussing Minimally Invasive Dental Techniques and their use in special care patients, led by Dr. Ahmed Kahatab. Delegates will then work together to discuss sample cases, including risk assessment, practical methods and decision making. These discussions will be facilitated by specialists in SCD.

Conference: Special Care into the Future

Friday 7th June

This year’s conference will explore a range of topical issues that face patients and dental professionals in Ireland into the future of Special Care Dentistry.

The programme is as follows:

8.45am               Registration

9.15am                 Opening address

9.30am                 The future of SCD in Ireland

Professor Blanaid Daly, Professor in Special Care Dentistry, Trinity College Dublin

10.15am              Orthodontics and the Special Care Patient

Dr Finn Geoghegan and Dr Aman Ulhaq, Consultants in Orthodontics, University of Edinburgh.

11.45am              Selection of the proper restorative material in the special care patient

Professor Luc Marks, Professor in Special Care Dentistry and IADH President, University of Ghent, Belgium.

2pm                       Bursary awards

2.30pm                Managing the emergency special care patient

Dr Siobhan Stapleton, Specialist in SCD, HSE Dental Services, Mid-Western Area.


3.15pm                The medical and dental overlap in marginalized groups

Dr Maithiu O Tuaithail, General Medical Practitioner, Safenet Ireland.

4pm                       Close, followed by AGM at 4.30pm.
